3 Things To Consider When Choosing Siding For Your Home

About Me
Tips for Navigating the World of Home Building

When my wife and I had finally saved up enough cash to move from an apartment to a house, we were very underwhelmed with the homes available in our local market. We weren't sure if we could afford to build a new home, but we spoke to a local contractor and decided it was actually a great option for us. We signed another year lease at our apartment complex and had a lot of fun choosing all of the options for our new home. We learned a lot about the home building experience during this time and, since we loved the experience so much, we decided to create a blog to share our tips and tricks for navigating the world of home building with other people who need the help designing their new homes. Come back often for new posts!

3 Things To Consider When Choosing Siding For Your Home

Getting new siding put onto your home is a big deal. It can add new life to your home and offer an updated look to an otherwise outdated looking home. If your home is in need of new siding, it can be a chore to find new siding that you like put onto your home. When making this decision, there are a few things you should consider so you end up with siding that you like on a house you already love. Read on for a few things to consider.

1. Compare Siding With Houses Like Yours

Don't try to compare your homes siding with siding of a gorgeous home you have seen on Pinterest. If the house looks nothing at all like yours, the siding may not look like yours does either. That house in the magazine that has four levels, a carriage house attached, and a 5 car garage may look nothing like your single family ranch house, so don't compare your home to that one. You need to take a ride around your neighborhood to see what other colors or styles of siding other people have used to see what you like and what you don't like. Compare only with homes that are similar to your own.

2. Siding Color Matters

You may have fallen in love with that really dark grey color, but on your smaller home, it may make your home appear even smaller. Darker colors can make a home appear smaller, so if you have a smaller home as it is, go with something lighter in color, so as to not dwarf your home. Lighter colors can also make a difference as well, as this can show a lot of dirt. If you have a lot of trees in your yard, it may show dirt, mold or mildew from the trees surrounding your home. Go with something in between dark and light.

3. Try Out Colors First

Some siding companies offer a computer program that can take a photo of your home and try out different siding colors on your home to see what it would look like. Try to use this program if possible, or look for one on-line yourself to see what colors or siding styles would look best on your home. What you may have liked originally, you may not like after seeing it in person. It's best to try it out first.

When choosing siding for your home, you should consider the above-mentioned to help you decide. Talk to a siding installation service company about what would look best on your style of home.
