Tips for Navigating the World of Home Building

When my wife and I had finally saved up enough cash to move from an apartment to a house, we were very underwhelmed with the homes available in our local market. We weren't sure if we could afford to build a new home, but we spoke to a local contractor and decided it was actually a great option for us. We signed another year lease at our apartment complex and had a lot of fun choosing all of the options for our new home. We learned a lot about the home building experience during this time and, since we loved the experience so much, we decided to create a blog to share our tips and tricks for navigating the world of home building with other people who need the help designing their new homes. Come back often for new posts!

Pipefitting technicians serve a valuable role in many industries, such as the oil and gas industry. Finding employment as a technician in pipefitting is all about making sure you have the right skill sets and attributes as a professional. Take a look at some of the important qualities that pipefitter technician staffing services are usually looking for in candidates.

The technician should be able to read blueprints

Pipefitter technicians are entrusted with a lot of tasks that can involve blueprints. For example, the pipefitter may have to use blueprints in the following situations:

  • They are working to build a new pipe system and have to follow a blueprint design
  • They are tracking down a section of pipe to make general repairs
  • They are attaching new sections of pipe to an existing pipe system

Pipefitting technicians who have gone to trade school usually take blueprint reading classes to help them garner a better understanding of this part of the job. Blueprint reading training can also come along with a job with certain companies.

The technician should have welding experience

Welding is a huge part of the pipefitting technician's job. These professionals may have to weld sections of pipe during new pipe installations or weld when they are making general repairs. Most of the candidates who apply for these positions have obtained a welding certification or degree from an accredited place or college. However, some companies do pay for prospects to take welding training as part of their employment offer with the company, and the professional can maintain this certification even if they move on to a different company.

The technician should be experienced with basic construction tools

A lot of tool use comes along with the pipefitter position; from basic drills and wrenches to power tools like saws and torches, pipefitters rely on a lot of things to get their job processes done. As someone looking for a career as a pipefitter technician, it is best that you have at least some tool-use experience.

The technician should work well with others

Beyond the technical side of being a pipefitter technician, there is a side of this line of work that involves working with a team of other professionals. Those interested in being a pipefitter technician should be good at communicating with others, be a good team player who doesn't mind sharing the reigns of a project, and have a knack for working around other people.
